Facial aesthetics have evolved over time as technology has advanced. Initially, facial aesthetics were simply the filling material used in fillers such as Restylane. Over the past twenty years or so, various non Fillular Aesthetic (no filler) methods of improving the look and feel of the skin have become available. Non Fillular Aesthetics include Dermalogica’s SkinTight (taken from Restylane), Juvederm Plus. A few other newer non-filler methods of facial skin rejuvenation include Cymetra, which are derived from sheep’s wool, and Dermacia, which are derived from cow hide.

Facial Plastic Surgery, or Facelift surgery is one of the fastest growing areas of the plastic surgery field. In fact, nearly seventeen million people in the United States undergo a Facelift surgery each year. This surgery works by Restylaning the soft tissues surrounding the facial bones and muscles. The result is a wrinkle-free appearance, with a more youthful look.

Facial Aesthetics is very effective at treating acne scars on the face, as well as fine lines, folds, and sun damage that does not respond well to traditional laser treatments. These non-surgical treatments can be performed on patients of all skin types and can have different effects depending upon the severity of the patient’s problem. Typically, the patient will return to the doctor every six to eight weeks for a check-up before the treatment. Some patients choose to receive several treatments at one time in order to keep from having the same procedure done too often. The doctor may choose to use anesthetics while treating certain skin conditions, like cystic acne, to ensure the best results. Other aesthetic options may be considered if a patient experiences severe side effects from the surgery.

One very popular type of facial aesthetic procedure is Botox. This is a chemical that is injected directly into a specific area of the face, usually in the forehead or around the mouth. The purpose is to reduce the wrinkles and make the skin of that area smoother. There are now over 20 different types of Botox procedures available, and most are available in over-the-counter forms.

In addition, Laser Aesthetic procedures are growing in popularity. These are generally used when minor wounds do not heal, or when healing takes longer than anticipated. These procedures are typically quite successful in achieving desired results.
